Founder at 'Kalacaree'

Sushma Agarwal

Sushma has done MA in Political science and then further pursued journalism. After marriage, with time Sushma so very much wanted to work and do something more than being a homemaker.

Kalacaree truly believes in working on the requirements of their client, customising the items and creating something new is what Sushma is more dedicated to.

Sometimes we need a push to start with something, that’s what happened with Sushma. A close friend of Sushma always trusted her and motivated her to do something. Sushma Accepted her friend’s advice and started exploring her strong point and soon realised her inclination towards creative items.

The first item Sushma made was Rakhi which she customised for a client. With Rakhi she started her Facebook Page. After seeing the finesse of the rakhi she made, she got an order to make an organiser, which her customer liked a lot. She picked up from here and hasn’t stopped till now.

Sushma’s first milestone was when ‘Firstcry’ approached them to launch their products on Firstcry!! Though they were apprehensive to make a decision, they decided to go ahead. Soon, ‘Stylemylo’ also approached them. In 2020, they also started selling on Amazon.

‘Do something without thinking about the monetary gains’ is Sushma’s belief.

Kalacaree’s struggle has been immense, from being the only craftsman to having 8 craftsmen who are working in 2 shifts now. Also, when they used to courier without any advance to having launched their products in different websites. Struggle from not having any order for days and now they are overloaded with orders. This shows success doesn’t come in a day, its a long process.

Her daughter is the biggest critic and gives suggestions also. Sushma has improvised on her items, diversified the range and has continuously got very nice reviews in various portals.

Also, to learn something from Sushma is the way she bonds with her craftsmen. Taking them out for a break, having meals and tea together and training them from the start to make them economically independent is how Sushma bonds with her craftsmen.
